Denver (Castle Rock)! Long, long haul. 6,200 feet high, passes of 12,000 to come!

ok well i made it, man it's been a long few days doing over 100 miles a day, really need a break, just checked in to a best western surrounded by restaurants with a view of the rockies, about 10 miles south of the denver ring road, there's a bus into denver itself just down the road so i'll go visiting on saturday

will stick up more later, but the solo part of the epic is officially over! Here is me yesterday, half way through a 110 mile ride, 50 miles to the next anything, hot dusty and windy, tumbleweeds rolling down the streets of this tiny village, no idea why i'm smiling:

(if you look closely you'll see my white hands, i got white feet too, and look like i'm wearing a blinding white t-shirt and boxers)

well after an awesome 'bubba burger' in the restuarant/bar just outside, which had the highest fit waiter/waitress quote i've seen during the whole trip, and then going to the wine supermarket next to the restaurant, i am working my way through a bottle of pinot grigio and feeling pretty damn mellow and happy.

So i want lots of comments. Lots and lots of them. Yes. Comments. I know, I know, you like the beard. That's a road beard, I've been saving it for bertie.

With your white hands and feet, can we start calling you "Dr Socks" like some cute little kitten?

Leave the beard, I think it will help you blend in in Canada.

Dr Socks!

Congratulations on making it this far! Beard is good, well done, didn't know you had it in you. And from your description, Denver sounds ace - good choice location to relax, put your tiny white feet up...

Hope you are getting used to the altitude now. And looking forward to seeing both you and Bert via video chat soon...

Keep up the good words, Mr Muggles!

Still can't quite believe I'm going to be joining you in 2 days!!! Really good going to get to Denver in that time geez, just leaves you a bit of time for some R&R before me and the jammer turn up.

Is there anything you need bringing over from the UK?

Not sure about the beard, makes you look like you've put weight on in the face. Or is that all the subways? I ate one last night as part of my rigorous training regime.

I have been logging on to your blog every morning for the next instalment... it beats working !

Did you know Denver is the 'Drunkest city' in America ? I can see why bert decided to meet you in Denver now :)

Amazing effort this week Kelv, enjoy your hard earned mini-break.

Bert has devised a system of bolting 12" Dubplates to his wheel axles, and mounted a stylus onto a sliding bike computer sensor. This is hooked up to an amp and sub in his panniers. Sounds an interesting idea, and promotes steady riding at 45rpm!

I live up in Fort Collins (quite a bit North of Castle Rock). Let me know if you are are in town. We have a mutual friend-of-a-friend - Dave Cooper. I have done quite a bit of bike-touring as well. Be glad to take you guys out for a beer and a meal if you make it up here!

That beard is just extra few grams of weight to carry around! Not to mention less aerodynamic!
